datumKL is an annual conference held in Kuala Lumpur which frames the global condition of contemporary architecture from a south-east Asian perspective. Curated by Ang Chee Cho assisted by Andreas Ruby, datumKL:2004 focused on the repercussions of globalisation on the nature and practice of architecture at large. How do local techniques of production develop when brought in contact with production processes from elsewhere? How does the global accessibility of territory alter the notion of place and context? How to enjoy the liberating effects of globalisation without being bulldozered by its obvious dangers? Answers were given by an international panel composed of architects, designers, engineers and critics such as FOA, MADA s.p.a.m., NL Architects, MIAS, WOHA Architects, Chris Bosse, Zaini Zainul, realities:united and Andreas Ruby.
