“A meta-building is a structure that exceeds the customary dimensions of a building to encompass a landscape or a city, both physically and conceptually” explains French architect Dominique Perrault in an interview with Andreas Ruby.
This Catalogue for an exhibition of Perrault’s work at the Architecture Center in Vienna (Dominique Perrault Architecture, Meta-Buildings, July 06 to Oct 23, 2006) shows four current projects at four different locations: the two high-rise towers for Vienna in the Donau-City, the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg, the Ewha Campus Center in Seoul and the Olympic Tennis Stadium in Madrid. Conceived in close relationship to their surroundings, Perrault’s buildings represent additional functional and spatial proposals in the urban context and offer intermediate spaces as a continuation of public space – often in the areas between the characteristic building envelopes and the building elements.
